Technology, in all aspects of our lives, is moving incredibly quickly. New innovations are superseded in the blink of an eye and garage door openers are no exception. In the last few years, garage door technology has moved far beyond the ‘point-and-click’ openers. So, lets take a look at some of the high-tech features that now come as standard with many garage door opening systems.
Garage Door: Rolling Code System
Most garage door remote systems now contain something called a ‘rolling code’, which means that the control and the receiver contain a computer chip that constantly alters the code in both chips. In other words, when you use the remote to open the garage door, it sends a signal to the receiver with a new code which will be recognized when you use the door again.
Rolling code technology has been around for some time now. However, it has only recently become part of the standard package in garage door openers. The obvious benefit of the rolling code is that it makes it harder for a potential thief to block the signal to close the door from your remote or mimic the signal to open the door from a remote of his, or her, own.
Garage Door: Biometric System
Similarly, biometric systems are being frequently used in garage door opening. Biometric systems use fingerprints or iris scanners to confirm the identity of the person attempting to open the garage door. Although this may seem like something from a spy movie, it is now a common feature of many remote opening systems and can vastly increase the security of your home or business.
Garage Door: Multiple Door System
If you are lucky enough to own a large home with more than one garage door, you can now purchase a multiple door system, which allows you to open the door of your choice without having to carry multiple remotes. In addition, the technology of remote systems has improved the distance from which the signal can be sent, which makes the use of multiple door systems even more effective.
Garage Door: Vacation System
Like many advances in garage door technology, the vacation system is designed to increase the security of your home. The system can be programmed with the dates you will be on vacation, or are away from the home for a number of days, and will not open the garage door during that time. In fact, even if a signal is sent with the correct code, the door will not open.
Science and technology have improved and simplified our lives, and it will continue to do so. Garage door technology is always evolving and new safety and security features are constantly on the horizon.
This is cool. Have you shared this technology with other garage door repair companies?
